1960 Chicago Republican National Convention Drink Stirs - Stockyard Inn - Set of 2
Offered is a unique piece of historic Chicago political memorabilia ... two drink stirrers from Chicago's legendary Stockyard Inn from the 1960 Republican Convention held at the adjacent International Amphitheatre at the historic Union Stockyards.
These stirs feature a caricature elephant atop (
see photos
) representing the Republican Party.  On one side it reads Stock Yard Inn 1960 .  The Stockyard Inn was the primary after hours gathering place for convention attendees.  It was formerly located across the street from the Amphitheatre in the shadow of the Stockyards.  The stirs are in excellent condition with no flaws or markings - just some faded lettering after all these years.
These drink stirs were personally obtained by my father, who worked in the Stockyards and was a regular at the Stockyard Inn from the late 1950's, 1960's, and through the mid 1970's.
The convention nominated then Vice President Richard M. Nixon
for president
and former
Senator Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. of Massachusetts
for vice president.
